Guard Soldier Awarded Purple Heart

PEEKSKILL--New York Army National Guard Sgt. Kieran Murphy, receives the Purple Heart in recognition of wounds received when insurgents attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device in July 13, 2012, during a ceremony here on Jan. 13. The attack occured during Operation Shrimps Net one of the major operations conducted by the 2nd Battaloon 108th Infantry. Two other Soldiers, PFC Steven W. Onofrey and PFC Ruben D. Abreu,
were wounded in the attack and were presented the Purple Heart in Afghanistan.
