69th Infantry Honored by Irish Parliament

New York City--Lt. Col. John Andonie, commander of the 1st Battalion 69th Infantry, receives The Lister Award from a member of the Irish Parliament on Sunday, March 15, during a ceremony here

The award is presented annually by the Irish Parliament to a organization that will participate in New York City's St. Patrick's Day Parade. The 69th, nicknamed "The Fighting 69th" was part of the Irish Brigade during the Civil War and traditionally leads the St. Patrick's Day Parade.
The unit also received a photograph of President John F. Kennedy presenting the 69ths colors to the Irish Parliment during a visit to Ireland in 1963
