Training with New York City's Bravest

New York Army National Guard Lt. Col. Dennis Deeley coordinates the confined space extraction of casualties with incident commander Chief Don Hayde from the New York City Fire Department?s Special Operations Command during a joint interagency training event May 3 between the FDNY and the New York National Guard at the FDNY?s fire training academy on Randall?s Island in New York. The daylong training exercise involved the joint interagency response to potential Hazardous Material or Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear or High Explosive (CBRNE) incident anywhere in the City of New York. The New York National Guard deployed and trained the state?s 2nd Civil Support Team (CST) and CBRNE Enhanced Response Force Package (CERFP). Deeley, commander of the Guard?s 2nd Battalion, 108th Infantry, leads the CERFP response force that includes search and extraction specialists, a decontamination team and medical triage element. The CERFP search and extraction team, Army National Guard engineers from the 27th Brigade Special Troops Battalion in Lockport, N.Y. trained side-by-side with urban search and rescue experts from the FDNY rescue team.
