Designated 9th regiment of heavy artillery: December 19, 1862

The following is taken from New York in the War of the Rebellion, 3rd ed. Frederick Phisterer. Albany: J. B. Lyon Company, 1912.
This regiment, organized in August and September, 1862, was converted into a regiment of artillery, December 19, 1862, designated the 9th Artillery, under which title its record will be found.

The following is taken from The Union army: a history of military affairs in the loyal states, 1861-65 -- records of the regiments in the Union army -- cyclopedia of battles -- memoirs of commanders and soldiers. Madison, WI: Federal Pub. Co., 1908. volume II.
One Hundred and Thirty-eighth Infantry.—This regiment, organized in the fall of 1862, was converted into a regiment of artillery in December. (See 9th Heavy Artillery.)

Clement family papers, 1830-1967.
This collection consists of the family records for the years 1830-1967 of the Christopher Clement family. Included in the collection are items related to his service in the 138th Regiment, 11th Brigade, 14th Infantry Division of the New York Militia. Also in the collection are several pieces of personal correspondence from family members and friends; a scrap of paper with music notations; multiplication tables; a biography of Aaron Clements; and typed genealogies of the descendants of Christopher Clement and another prominent Michigan resident, Elihu Benson.
