Command Sergeant Major Jorge Vazquez entered service in the New York Army National Guard on September 30, 1977.
Past assignments include squad leader and platoon sergeant for Company A, 1st Battalion, 107th Infantry. Platoon Sergeant for Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment. Platoon Sergeant for Company D, 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment. First Sergeant for Company B, 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment, 3-142 Assault Helicopter Battalion Command Sergeant Major, 42 Combat Aviation Brigade Command Sergeant Major.
In his past 35 years of service, he has responded to the mail carriers and prison strikes, deployed to the World Trade Center, New York City after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, provided security at West Point Military Academy and recently served in Operation Iraqi Freedom.
His military training includes: Basic training, Advanced Individual Training, Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Course, Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers Course and the Sergeant Major Academy. He is also a sergeant in the U.S. Federal Police, a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the American Legion of War.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Army Reserve Components Achievement with Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star Device, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal with “M” Device and Silver Hourglass, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon with “3”, the Army Service Ribbon, Two Overseas Service Ribbons, The Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Command Sergeant Major Vasquez is married to his wife Dacia for 32 years. They have a son. Jorge III and a daughter, Tawana.
