Getting an Aerial Surveillance Unit Off the Ground

CAMP SHELBY, Miss. -- Specialist Jeremy Southcott, Pfc. Timothy Strong and Sgt. Glen Follett check and refill oil in a "Shadow" aircraft during routine maintenance. The Soldiers are New York Army National Guard members of Detachment 1 (Unmanned Aerial Surveillance), Company B (Military Intelligence), 27th Special Troops Battalion.
The UAS Detachment was organized in 2009 and was at Camp Shelby for the past two months to train on and acquire the new surviallance aircraft.
Currently, Det. 1 is at more than 75 percent trained and ready to take on a war fighter mission according to Chief Warrant Officer Ronny Blatchford.
