Henry Johnson Fought for his life 100 Years Ago

New York National Guard Soldier Henry Johnson, a member of the 369th Infantry, became one of the first American heroes of World War I a hundred years ago on May 15, 1918, when he fought off a German raiding party using grenades, his rifle and finally his knife and fists. This fanciful print illustrates that fight which resulted in Johnson being awarded the French Croix De Guerre and eventually-- in 2015-- the Medal of Honor.
